Britney Spears' performance in "The X-Factor" on November 29 skyrocketed record ratings as an audience estimated at 12.8 million stayed tune in on the date to watch her sing "Womanizer". The star's show turned out to be less than impressive as she just performed lip-sync. The audience complained with the result because they had already had a flying hope about her show.
The viewers admitted that they were disappointed of Britney and wrote their expression through the message boards of "X-Factor". "It was terrible," wrote one viewer. "All the contestants are better than her." Another show goer also said, "She wasn't even trying to sing." However, an executive producer for the talent show, Richard Holloway, praised her performance, saying "We were absolutely delighted at having the American pop phenomenon that is Britney Spears appearing on the No 1 entertainment show in the UK."
Sources close to the singer of "Circus", who gave applause to her appearance as "fantastic", gave reason for her singing lip-sync. Over the matter, they revealed that she mimed to focus on her dancing. One source said, "What we promised and what she wanted to deliver was a performance where she was back to her best, and that was what she did. She's always been known for her dancing." That is why the source felt "surprised at people's reaction".
Finding out people's opinion about her performance, Spears was reportedly reluctant to appear on stage at the GAY nightclub in London although many clubbers had expected to see her sing her songs. "That was the worst experience of my life," said David Cox, one clubber. "I feel sorry for Britney, as everyone will blame her but it's not her fault. She looked upset and then held up a sign saying, 'Sorry, I'm leaving'." Jeremy Joseph, the long-time promoter of GAY, testified "I don't know why she didn't go on. She's really shy, and obviously she didn't feel confident enough. I tried to persuade her but she said no."
A spokesman for the star gave comment about her coming to GAY club by saying, "Contrary to reports, Britney Spears was never booked to perform or even appear at GAY. She was invited to the evening but was never asked to perform. Following her incredible X Factor performance, Britney took up the invite and relaxed."
