Tom Cruise has tried his best on "Valkyrie, but the movie turns out to be less impressive. Many U.S. critics give bad credits to the film. Besides, they also describe his performance in the drama thriller as "distractingly bad".
Christy Lemire from the Associated Press gives the most horrible comment to Cruise. Lemire claims the actor's delivery is the worst part of the movie. "Cruise is both the central figure in Valkyrie and it's weakest link. He's distractingly bad in this", reasoning, "his hard, flat American accent". She also adds, "And he's not a good enough actor to immerse himself in this kind of period piece."
Another mean review comes from Emanuel Levy of Cinema 24/7. He compares Cruise's character as Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg with the real German Officer. Over Cruise, he reveals, "Arguably miscast, Cruise is stiff and unconvincing as the courageously heroic German officer."
Meanwhile, MSNBC film critic Alonso Duralde lowers his thumb down about the film and Cruise's role. "There's a gaping hole at the center of Valkyrie, and his name is Tom Cruise," he utters. "He's the only actor in the film not doing either a British or a German accent-more on that in a moment-and he spends every moment on screen glowering and purring angrily." He ends his opinion, revealing, "The actor appears lost without being able to launch his usual charm offensive, and whatever dark sides that Oliver Stone was once able to plumb from this performer seems nonexistent."
Not only the U.S. critics, but also German critics voice rough comments over Cruise and "Valkyrie". Bild am Sonntag newspaper claims Cruise's role as Stauffenberg is "about as deep as a bowl of cornflakes". Besides, Taggespiegel writes, "Tom Cruise, who has been damaged by his bizarre talk show behavior, may well continue storming the heights of the Scientology hierarchy as a thetan," while adding, "but his image as an actor has been finally ruined by Valkyrie."
