"Gossip Girl" hunk Ed Westwick is set to star as Heathcliff on drama movie "Wuthering Heights". It is a film adaptation based on Emily Bronte's 1847 novel with the same title. In addition to Ed, Gemma Arterton, who played Strawberry Fields on "Quantum of Solace", is chosen to be the leading actress, Cathy.
About the role of Cathy, it was initially given to Natalie Portman. However, she was then replaced by Abbie Cornish due to scheduling clash. Later, producers of the flick, Robert Bernstein and Douglas, decided to look for young actress, so 23-year-old Artenton was picked up for the role.
Additionally, Variety reported that Peter Webber, who previously directed "Hannibal Rising", was appointed to be the director of the film. The flick itself is scheduled to be released in 2010.
"Wuthering Heights" centers on poor young boy Heathcliff, who is adopted by the wealthy Earnshaw family. Living together at a luxurious house, he then develops an intense relationship with his younger sister, Cathy.
