Cynthia Nixon announced her engagement to longtime girlfriend Christine Marinoni during Love, Peace and Marriage Equality rally in midtown New York on Sunday, May 17. At the event that supports gay marriage, Cynthia said that she became engaged last month. The "Sex and the City" star also showed her engagement ring to the crowd.
Previously, Cynthia has opened up about her intention to get married with her girlfriend. "I think we would definitely [get married] if it became legal in New York," she told Access in an interview last year. "I don't really want to get married to get married pretend. I think we'd like to do it in a real, actual, legal way that the state would recognize."
Cynthia began dating Christine, an education activist, in 2003 after splitting with husband Danny Mozes. The 43-year-old actress has two children, daughter Samantha, 12, and son Charles, 6 from the marriage.
Beside Cynthia, other celebrities who joined the event were Kristin Davis, David Hyde Pierce, Audra McDonald and Ana Ortiz. The event was sponsored by a group supporting new gay-rights bill proposed by New York Governor David Paterson.
