It seems that Sean Penn doesn't really want a divorce from his wife, Robin Wright Penn. Just three weeks after the Oscar-winning actor filed for legal separation from his wife of 13 years, Penn dispatched his lawyers to California's Marin County Superior Court on Thursday, May 21, to retract his request for legal separation, his rep confirmed.
Penn's publicist Mara Buxbaum told E! News, "I can confirm papers for legal separation have been dismissed and there are no papers in the court system any longer." Meanwhile, Penn admitted to the Daily News that his decision to file for divorce "was an arrogant mistake."
Friends of the couple believe Penn filed his petition since he was irritated. "They love each other like crazy but they fight like crazy," said a pal. "They may have gotten into a fight where she said she wanted a divorce and he filed just to beat her to the punch, even though he doesn't want a divorce," the pal added, "That doesn't mean they're suddenly happy and in love. It's anyone's guess where this is going."
It wasn't the first time the couple filed for divorce but then dismissed it. Penn, 48, had previously filed one back in December 2007, but his petition was later withdrawn. Three days later, Wright Penn, 43, filed her own paperwork. But in April 2008, the couple's divorce appeal was dismissed at their request.
The couple has two children from their marriage, Dylan, 18, and Jack, 15. Previously this month, there were rumors that Penn, previously starring in "I Am Sam," had a romantic relationship with Natalie Portman which were denied by Portman.
