Ben Stiller's flick "Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian" got the 1st position at the box office over the Memorial Day weekend. The live-action comedy film, according to its distributor 20th Century Fox, won an estimated $70 million in ticket sales.
The number apparently topped Christian Bale's post-apocalyptic action film "Terminator Salvation". It only pulled in $53.8 million over the four-day weekend, according to Warner Bros Pictures.
"It's blown away our expectations," Chris Aronson, senior vice president of domestic distribution for 20th Century Fox, said. "We've nearly doubled the opening of the first 'Night at the Museum.' It's an incredibly strong No. 1 that beats out 'Terminator,' which I think most people thought would win the weekend."
Joining both movies at the box office was "Star Trek", which secured the 3th position by raising $29.4 million in ticket sales. Meanwhile, the previous weekend's number 1 film, "Angels & Demons", fell to the fourth place with $27.7 million.
