"The Wackness" actress Mary-Kate Olsen is tapped to star on teen romance movie "Beastly", following the footsteps of Vanessa Hudgens who has been chosen to become the film's leading actress. Additionally, CBS Films also picks Alex Pettyfer, who previously worked on "Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker", to be one of the actors.
In April, Vanessa Hudgens was confirmed to star as Linda Owens, who is described as "not beautiful, bearing red hair, green eyes and crooked teeth" fair maiden. Emily Browning and Jamie Chung will also join her on the movie, which is scheduled to be filmed in Montreal on June 13.
Set in modern-day New York City, "Beastly" is adapted from Alex Flinn's fantasy novel with the same title and inspired by famous fairytale "Beauty and the Beast". On the movie, Olsen will portray Kendra Hilferty, a witch who put a curse on Pettyfer's Kyle Kingsbury, who is physically transformed into everything he hates.
Daniel Barnz is appointed to be the director and Roz Weisberg will be co-producing the film. Then, Susan Cartsonis will produce it through her Storefront Films shingle. The flick itself is scheduled to hit U.S. theaters on July 30, 2010.
