Following news that Neil Patrick Harris was close to host the 61st annual Emmy Awards, it has been reported that he has signed on to emcee the prestigious event.
Neil Patrick Harris is going to serve as a host at the 2009 Emmy Awards. A deal has been reached by the "How I Met Your Mother" star to emcee the 61st annual ceremony, Entertainment Weekly reported. However, an official announcement will only be released early next week.
News that Neil is set to host the 2009 Emmys emerged just hours after some sources informed the actor was close to be this year's Emmycast frontman. At that time, it was said the deal was not yet completed and all sides were working on making it possible.
In June, Neil Patrick Harris just emceed the Tony Awards and received a good review. Thus, it is believed that his appearance on the center of Emmy's stage will boost the rating of the event which is under pressure to stage a turnaround this year after last year's edition hit an all-time viewership low.
The 61st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards will announce its complete list of nominations on July 16. Meanwhile, the awards event will be aired on Sunday, September 20 on CBS.
