The nominees of 2009 World Soundtrack Awards have been announced. Freida Pinto's 2008 movie "Slumdog Millionaire" leads the nominations with three nods. Two nominations are received from Best Original Song Written Directly for a Film category for the movie soundtracks "Jai Ho" and "O... Saya". Another nod is secured for Best Original Score of the Year.
World Soundtrack Academy was founded in 2001 by the Ghent International Film Festival. As of the press time, it encompasses close to 300 composers and representatives of the film music business. The winners of the ninth annual awards show will be announced at the closing night of the 36th Ghent International Film Festival on October 17.
Set to perform during the event will be composers Alexandre Desplat and Marvin Hamlisch. Desplat will perform and conduct some of his most famous scores, including "The Way We Were," "A Chorus Line" and "Sophie's Choice." As for Hamslich, he is going to take the stage to perform some soundtracks from his movies, such as "Girl with a Pearl Earring", "Lust, Caution", and "The Painted Veil". The complete list of the nominees, meanwhile, can be seen at .
