Miss Venezuela Stefania Fernandez has been crowned 2009 Miss Universe, beating all her fellow contestants at the annual beauty pageant.
The winner of 2009 Miss Universe has been announced. Miss Venezuela Stefania Fernandez has been crowned the new Miss Universe at the 58th annual event, which was held at the Atlantis Paradise Island in Nassau, Bahamas on Sunday, August 23.
The 18-year-old beauty received the crown from Miss Universe 2008, Dayana Mendoza, who also comes from Venezuela. Surprisingly, the crown fell down when the outgoing titleholder wanted to put it at Fernandez's head as she was very excited to be the winner. A moment after that, Mendoza took the fallen crown and attached it to Fernandez's head.
Named as the first runner-up was Miss Dominican Republic, Ada Aimee De la Cruz. Then, Miss Kosovo, Gona Dragusha, got the second runner-up predicate. Miss Australia, Rachael Finch, in the meantime, was honored as the third runner-up. Additionally, Chutima Durongdej, who comes from Thailand, won Miss Photogenic and Miss China, Wang Jingyao, was honored as Miss Congeniality.
