'He was found in his bedroom, in bed, face down,' says a police source when describing DJ AM's dead body which was found in his New York City apartment on Friday, August 28.
DJ AM, whose real name is Adam Goldstein, was found dead in his New York City apartment on Friday afternoon, August 28. "He was found in his bedroom, in bed, face down," a police source tells Us Magazine, adding that the 36-year-old DJ was seen wearing no shirt but pants when his dead body was found. The fire department and police opened the door of his seventh-floor apartment on Lafayette Street after one of his friends called 911.
On the same day, a representative for the DJ said in a statement, "Adam 'DJ AM' Goldstein was found deceased this afternoon in his New York City apartment." Then, the spokesperson continued, "The circumstances surrounding his death are unclear. Out of respect for his family and loved ones, please respect their privacy at this time."
Last year, DJ AM revealed that he was abused by his father when he was a child, became addicted to drugs, and had attempted suicide. Additionally, he also admitted that he had attended recovery meetings and had remained drug-free for about a decade. "He was sober for 10 years. His sobriety was really important to him," a friend said.
Then, in September 2008, he along with Blink-182's drummer
Travis Barker survived a Lear Jet tragedy, which killed four people. At that time, DJ AM said he was "the luckiest guy alive". Additionally, Dr. Fred Mullins, who treated him and Barker, stated, "Anybody who can survive a plane crash is pretty lucky."
