Madonna Breaks Her Own World Tour Record

broke her own record for top-grossing tour by a solo artist. Tour promoter Live Nation Inc. has announced on Wednesday, September 2 that the "Material Girl" songstress has earned approximately $408 million after performing in front of more than 3.5 million fans at 85 shows for her "Sticky & Sweet" tour.

With this impressive tally, the former wife of director Guy Ritchie has broken her previous record from her 2006's "Confessions" tour, which earned her $194 million after playing to 1.2 million fans at 60 shows. The number also placed "Sticky & Sweet" on the runner-up position of the top-grossing tour overall, following behind "Bigger Bang" tour by , which earned the band $558 million.

Of Madonna's record breaking tour, Live Nation's Chairman of Global Music and CEO of Global Touring Arthur Fogel said, "With "Sticky & Sweet" Madonna has proven yet again that there is virtually no limit to what she can accomplish both creatively and commercially."

The "Sticky & Sweet", which designed to support her eleventh studio album "Hard Candy", was Madonna's eight worldwide tour. It was the her first project with her new recording company, Live Nation. The tour was kicked off at Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales on August 23, 2008 and wrapped up on September 2, 2009 at Hayarkon Park in Tel Aviv, Israel.
