Michael Jackson's family and close friends have said goodbye to the King of Pop. More than two months after he was pronounced dead on June 25, the singer has finally been laid to rest in a private ceremony on Thursday, September 3 at Holly Terrace in The Great Mausoleum at Glendale Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California.
The ceremony was begun about an hour and a half late than its initial schedule at 7:00 P.M. due to the tardy arrival of his family, including his parents Joe Jackson and Katherine Jackson, and his three children Prince Michael Jackson Jr., Paris Michael Katherine Jackson, and Prince Michael Jackson II. After arriving at the cemetery, Michael's brothers, who wore black armbands and a sequined glove on one hand, carried his flower-covered casket out of the hearse and placed it before about 200 mourners.
Serving as the ushers were dancers who were initially planned to perform at Michael's scheduled London concert series this summer. Reverend Al Sharpton, who gave a rousing eulogy at the singer's public memorial two months ago, spoke at the burial service while R&B singer Gladys Knight performed. Just before 10:00 P.M., the reverend posted on his Twitter page, "Michael Jackson has been laid to rest."
Hours before the ceremony was begun, hundreds of mourners have gathered at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Some of Michael's close friends, including Macaulay Culkin, Mila Kunis, Chris Tucker, Stevie Wonder, Corey Feldman, and Elizabeth Taylor were seen among the attendees. They were joined by the superstar's ex-wife Lisa Marie Presley.
