Karina Smirnoff. "It's a little rough right now," the Ukrainian dancer told E! Online when being met outside 3rd Street Dance Studio in West Hollywood.
On Tuesday, September 8, Karina's representative confirmed that the 31-year-old beauty has called off her engagement to Maksim, her fellow dancer on "Dancing with the Stars". "I am confirming that they did indeed break up," the spokesperson said.
Maksim Chmerkovskiy began dating Karina Smirnoff in summer 2008. On December 31 the same year, the twosome announced their engagement. Then, in July 2009, Karina shared her wedding plans with Maksim, stating "The only thing that we've decided on is next year in June."
Professionally, Maksim and Karina have been scheduled to dance together at 2009 Primetime Emmy Awards, which will be kicked off on September 20. About their upcoming appearance at the annual awards show, E! Online claimed both of them requested separate dressing rooms.
