Kanye West has apologized for interrupting
Taylor Swift's speech during 2009 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, September 13. Taking to his blog after the show, he wrote "I'm sooooo sorry to Taylor Swift and her fans and her mom."
"I spoke to her mother right after and she said the same thing my mother would've said," Kanye continued. "She is very talented! I like the lyrics about being a cheerleader and she's in the bleachers! I'm in the wrong for going on stage and taking away from her moment!"
During 26th Annual MTV Video Music Awards, Taylor Swift became the winner of Best Female Video category for the music video of her tune "You Belong with Me". When she gave an acceptance speech for the nod, Kanye West soon came to the stage to take the microphone from her hands and claimed
Beyonce Knowles should have deserved the prize.
"Yo Taylor. I'm really happy for you. I'm gonna let you finish but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time," the 32-year-old stated when referring to Beyonce's music video for "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)". He then added, "One of the best videos of all time!"
However, Swift got a second opportunity to continue her speech after Knowles grabbed Video of the Year award for her single "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)". Taking the stage to give a speech, the 28-year-old beauty said, "Thank you. I remember being 17-years-old, up for my first MTV Award with Destiny's Child and it was one of the most exciting moments in my life. So I'd like Taylor [Swift] to come out and have her moment."
Soon after that, Swift came to the stage, stating "I'd like to thank all the fans on Twitter and MySpace and everyone who came out to my shows this summer." Then, she added, "Thank you so much!"
