'I was really excited ... and I kind of wasn't excited anymore,' says Taylor Swift when talking about Kanye West's interruption during her acceptance speech for Best Female Video gong.
Taylor Swift has commented on
Kanye West's statement which insulted her during 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. Speaking to MTV News backstage after the show, she said, "It has been a crazy night, hasn't it?"
"Well, you know, I was up there and I was standing there and I saw Kanye up on the stage," the 19-year-old country music singer recalled. "I was really excited ... and I kind of wasn't excited anymore."
At 26th Annual MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night, September 13, Taylor Swift grabbed the gong for Best Female Video category, beating top-notch songstresses, including
Beyonce Knowles,
Lady GaGa,
Kelly Clarkson,
Katy Perry, and
Pink. When giving an acceptance speech for the award, Swift was interrupted by Kanye West who quickly jumped on stage, grabbed the microphone on her hands, and mentioned that Knowles actually deserved to get the gong.
Fortunately, Swift finally got a second chance to continue her speech when Knowles allowed her to speak during the 28-year-old beauty's acceptance speech for Video of the Year prize. Commenting on the "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" hitmaker's kindness to let her have her moment once again, Swift stated, "You know, they told me to be ready just in case she might want to say something."
"It was just so wonderful and so incredibly classy of her and just gracious and wonderful to let me say something," Swift told of Knowles. "She's just been my hero and one of my idols ever since I was little. She's a great person."
