'Well, I knew his intentions, and I knew he was standing up for art,' states Beyonce Knowles when talking about Kanye West's rant during 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.
Beyonce Knowles has finally broken her silence about
Kanye West, who interrupted
Taylor Swift's acceptance speech for her Best Female Video prize at 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. Met at Billboard magazine's annual Women in Music event on Friday, October 2, the "Halo" songstress claimed she understood why the rapper did that.
"Well, I knew his intentions, and I knew he was standing up for art; and he told me before, when they said the nominees, he's like, 'You have this award,'" Beyonce told the editor of O: The Oprah Magazine, Gayle King, at the event, during when she was named Woman of the Year. The
Jay-Z's wife then added, "And when they didn't call my name he was, like, completely shocked. And when he walked on the stage, I was like, 'No, no, no!' and then he spoke, and I was like, 'Oh, no, no, no!'"
At the 26th Annual MTV Video Music Awards, Kanye West jumped on stage in the middle of Taylor Swift's speech and told people about his opinion that Beyonce Knowles actually deserved the gong. Later, the 29-year-old beauty gave Taylor a second chance to continue her speech when she allowed the country singer to speak during her acceptance speech for Video of the Year prize. Commenting on the incident, Beyonce said with laugh, "But in the end, it ended up being a great night, and Taylor Swift did get her moment - and I didn't have to make an acceptance speech."
