Liking the idea of contrasting personalities, on November 3 Oscars producers announced Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin as the hosts of 82nd Annual Academy Awards.
Oscars producers, Bill Mechanic and Adam Shankman, have announced the 82nd Academy Awards hosts on Tuesday, November 3. Unlike the host of last year event,
Hugh Jackman, this year award event for outstanding movies will bring slightly contrary personalities.
Alec Baldwin, nominated for best supporting actor in 2004 for his role as Shelly Kaplow in "
The Cooler", had never hosted this event. Conversely,
Steve Martin hosted the 73rd Academy Award in 2001 and appeared once again as the host in 2003 for the same event. Both Baldwin and Martin have hosted "Saturday Night Live".
Martin, 64, said he is happy to host the Award with Baldwin, 51, whom he referred to jokingly as his enemy. Indeed, the two will play as rivals in a movie called "
It's Complicated" which will be released on Christmas day. And Baldwin said, "I don't play the banjo, but I'm thrilled to be hosting the Oscar - it's the opportunity of a lifetime."
The producers, Shankman and Mechanic, exclaimed, "We think the team of Steve and Alec are the perfect pair of hosts for the Oscars. Steve will bring the experience of having hosted the show in the past and Alec will be completely fresh personality for this event." Mechanic continued, "We're expecting a spirit du combat."
The 82nd Annual Academy Award will be aired live on March 7, 2010 from The Kodak Theater at Hollywood & Highland Center by ABC.
