The full official music video for
Rihanna's "Russian Roulette" has finally hit the web. More than four minutes long, the video dramatizes the song the 21-year-old sings. It presents her among other scenes, playing the Russian Roulette game with a man sitting in front of her, standing on the path of a speeding car, and being shot at while swimming.
Director Anthony Mandler who also helmed Riri's "Wait Your Turn" video recently talked about "Roulette" video with MTV. He stated, "I think that with this song and the meaning of this song and how loaded it all is, no pun intended, how much imagery and perhaps symbolism that is loaded in this song, the only way to do it was to do something that was visually challenging."
He went on to share what he and the singer want to achieve with this video. "The song, this situation, everything is so frontloaded with so much gossip and so much media coverage and so many emotions and stories that if you don't try to do something that is poetic and layered in symbolism, then you're either running from the truth or you're being too obvious with it," he said. "I think our objective was to run down our lane with it and to step out of the drama and the gossip. To get deeper and be more symbolic."
"Russian Roulette" is the first single off Rihanna's fourth studio album "Rated R". About the song, she recently shared how it came to her. "Well, actually
Ne-Yo gave me the first song we did on the album," she explained. "It's called 'Stupid in Love' [which we worked on early on], and 'Russian Roulette' came at the end." The album "Rated R" itself will be made available for purchase in the U.S. on November 23.
