ABC reportedly plans to cancel the Ferrera-starring show if the ratings don't improve by mid spring, but still tries to increase its ratings by possibly moving the airing schedule.
The fourth season of
America Ferrera's "Ugly Betty" might become the series' last season. According to E! Online, ABC may cancel the show in May 2010 if the ratings don't improve by mid spring. "The writers have accepted that this season may be the last and are brainstorming endings now, just in case. The big question is: Who will Betty end up with? The writers room is deeply divided," a source says.
ABC is currently looking for some ways to save the series, including possibility of moving the show's schedule from Fridays to Wednesdays. Unfortunately, as of the press time, representative for the the TV network has yet to give any comment on the possible cancellation report.
"Ugly Betty" has entered its fourth season on October 9. It focuses on Ferrera's Betty Suarez who starts her new job as associate features editor. While she tries to run her own Mode photo shoot, Betty deals with resentful co-workers, bullies prey on Justin, Wilhelmina harbors a secret, and Daniel's distress takes its toll.
In related news, Christopher Gorham, the depicter of Henry Grubstick, has confirmed that he won't return to "Ugly Betty". On Tuesday, November 17, he took to his Twitter page, writing "I'm not back on Ugly Betty. Just dropped by to visit my friends." He added, "Notes from Ugly Betty set - Everyone is well. Ana Ortiz's daughter is beautiful. Giant hanging props (you'll see) are hilarious."
