On the Friday, November 20 episode of 'The Oprah Winfrey Show', the 55-year-old will announce that the daytime talk show is going to go off air in September 2011.
Longtime TV show "The Oprah Winfrey Show" will end its run in 2011. The president of Harpo, Tim Bennett, has stated that
Oprah Winfrey is going to officially announce the news on this Friday, November 20 episode of the show.
"Tomorrow, Oprah will announce live on The Oprah Winfrey Show that she has decided to end what is arguably one of the most popular, influential and enduring programs in television history," Bennett said in a statement on Thursday, November 19. "The sun will set on the Oprah show as its 25th season draws to a close on September 9, 2011."
Previously, a representative for Oprah confirmed that the 55-year-old is going to make announcement at the end of this year about whether or not she was planning her current daytime talk show to make a leap to her previously announced cable channel, Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) that is expected to be launched in January 2010. However, as of the press time, no deals have been confirmed yet.
"The Oprah Winfrey Show" was first broadcast on September 8, 1986. It is currently becoming the longest-running daytime talk show in the United States. Back in 1998, it was named one of the best television series of the 20th century by Time magazine. Then, in 2002, TV Guide hailed it as one of the top 50 greatest American shows of all time.
