While the late Michael Jackson takes home four prizes at this year's AMAs, the country songstress comes out as the big winners as she collects five trophies in all, including Artist of the Year.
Taylor Swift has indeed dominated this year's music awards. After grabbing five kudos from the 43rd Annual Country Music Association Awards on November 11, the country singer went on to win the most nods at 2009 American Music Awards. On the Sunday, November 22, ceremony, she took home five AMAs.
Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist, Favorite Country Female Artist and Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist were among the 19-year-old's AMAs collection this year. Nominated for six categories, she missed only on the Favorite Pop/Rock Album kudo. She lost to other multiple winner on the night
Michael Jackson. However, she beat the King of Pop for the ultimate title of Artist of the Year.
Michael, in the meantime, grabbed onto four awards at the show held at the Nokia Theatre L. A. Live in Los Angeles. The singer who passed away in June nabbed Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist and Favorite Soul/Rhythm & Blues Male Artist. He also won Favorite Pop/Rock Album and Favorite Soul/Rhythm & Blues Album for his album "".
Other winners on the special night included
Rascal Flatts,
Green Day and
Black Eyed Peas. Rascal Flatts was dubbed Favorite Country Band, Duo or Group for the fourth year in a row, while Green Day nabbed Favorite Alternative Rock Artist and BEP won two titles: Favorite Pop/Rock Band, Duo or Group and Favorite Soul/Rhythm & Blues Band, Duo or Group.
Beyonce Knowles won Favorite Soul/Rhythm & Blues Female Artist, while her husband
Jay-Z nailed two awards, Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Male Artist and Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album for "The Blueprint 3". Beating
Lady Gaga, country band Gloriana stole away the award for T-Mobile Breakthrough Artist.
The American Music Awards honors the year's top-selling artists in the categories of pop/rock, country, rap/hip-hop, soul/R 'n' B, alternative and adult contemporary among some others. Winners are selected through online voting by fans. This year, the ceremony that was broadcast live on ABC was opened with a medley from
Janet Jackson.
The headliners on the special night included DAUGHTRY,

Whitney Houston. Honored with International Artist of the Year title, Houston made her first live TV performance singing "I Didn't Know My Own Strength." Meanwhile,
