Singing 'Bad Romance' and 'Speechless' during this year's American Music Awards, the controversial singer smashes through a glass and plays a piano that is engulfed in flame.
2009 American Music Awards was filled with many amazing performances from various artists from DAUGHTRY to Whitney Houston, but it was Lady GaGa who stole the Sunday, November 22 show. Singing two of her songs off mini album "The Fame Monster", the 23-year-old delivered one fiery performance, literally.
GaGa started her performance with single "Bad Romance". In a glittering, H.R. Geiger-inspired headpiece and a nude bodysuit, she danced her way through the song accompanied by six pansexual dancers. After belting out the high notes, she collapsed to the floor and the music stopped. She then moved on by grabbing her mic stand and walked to her piano which was encased in glass.
Breaking her way to reach the piano, she smashed the glass and began playing the opening refrain of "Speechless". She went on to sing the song when her piano erupted in flames. During this performance, she was accompanied by a pair of gas-mask wearing violinists. Ending her performance, GaGa grabbed a slew of bottles and smashed them into the piano.
Broadcast live on ABC, this year's American Music Awards took place at the Nokia Theatre L. A. Live in Los Angeles. The show was opened with a medley from Janet Jackson. Although she was unable to attend the show in person, Taylor Swift came out as the big winner on the special night. She took home five kudos, including the Artist of the Year title, which she won over Michael Jackson.
