Sexiest Man Alive Inclusion Inspires Adam Lambert's AMAs Performance

'I don't know, maybe it went to my head and that's why I did the performance the way I did,' the 'American Idol' alum jokes about the effect of him being featured in People's Sexiest Men Alive issue.

Being featured in People magazine's Sexiest Man Alive issue seems to have something to do with Adam Lambert's controversial performance at 2009 American Music Awards. The runner-up of "American Idol" season eight recently joked about his inclusion in the list being the inspiration behind his act on stage.

Presented with a question whether the title is to blame for his AMAs performance, the 27-year-old singer told Canadian entertainment program eTalk, "I don't know, maybe it went to my head and that's why I did the performance the way I did." While joking about the matter, he admitted that being named one of the sexiest men alive is "very flattering". He added, "I don't think of myself like that, so that's crazy."

On Sunday, November 22, Adam Lambert delivered one raunchy performance at 2009 American Music Awards when singing the title track to his new album "For Your Entertainment". He was seen making out with his straight male keyboardist, simulating oral sex with a male backing dancer and giving his middle finger. His act was quick to generate about 1,500 complaints from viewers.

It also led to the cancellation of his November 25's "Good Morning America" appearance. Explaining the reason behind the decision, a spokesperson for the show said, "Given his controversial American Music Awards performance, we were concerned about airing a similar concert so early in the morning."

Of the cancellation, Lambert told Ryan Seacrest, "Obviously I respect their decision, they gotta do what they gotta do. It's too bad, I think there were a lot of fans who were excited to come see me. They probably had a lot of pressure coming at them from certain people who weren't happy about it. I respect their decision - I don't necessarily agree with it, but they need to do what they need to do."
