'For Your Entertainment' only lands third on Billboard 200, while 'I Dreamed a Dream' soars to #1 and shatters Eminem's sales record for 2009.
Despite generating controversy for his performance at 2009 American Music Awards,
Adam Lambert didn't manage to sell his debut album "For Your Entertainment" as great as
Susan Boyle with "". The runner-up of "American Idol" season 8 only landed third on Billboard 200 with 198,000 copies.
While the sales number of "For Your Entertainment" didn't meet with its high expectation, it did scored better than
Kris Allen's "
Kris Allen". The self-titled album from the "AI" winner debuted at #11 last week and marked the lowest initial numbers of any "Idol" winner with 80,000 copies sold in its first week.
YouTube sensation and "Britain's Got Talent" runner-up, Susan Boyle, in the meantime, has indeed created chart history of her own. According to Nielsen SoundScan, her debut album "" has broken previous U.S. chart records set by
Eminem and
Ashanti.
With nearly 701,000 copies sold in its first week alone, the effort marked the best sales week for an album in the country this year. The impressive number dethroned Eminem's comeback album "Relapse", which was sold as much as 608,000 copies in its opening week in 2009, from the top position.
Beside the 2009 best sales, Boyle's "I Dreamed a Dream" also scored the highest debut by a female solo artist in the SoundScan era. She overshadowed Ashanti whose self-titled debut "Ashanti" held the previous record with 503,000 in 2002. In SoundScan's tracking history, her big opening number was ranked second behind
Snoop Dogg's "Doggystyle" which claimed 803,000 in its first week back in 1993.
Beside Adam Lambert and Susan Boyle, Billboard 200 also saw
Andrea Bocelli,
Rihanna and
Lady GaGa on the top five. Bocelli hung on to # 2 spot from last week as his "My Christmas" sold another 18,000 copies. Rihanna, meanwhile, crawled to #4 with "Rated R". Her fourth studio album sold 181,000 copies. GaGa, in addition, landed fifth with 174,000 for her "The Fame Monster".
