Providing his comment on the rock band's tour bus crash that led to frontman Rivers Cuomo being hospitalized, Patrick Wilson mentions, 'It was perfect conditions for black ice.'
Traveling east to Boston, Massachusetts, alternative rock band
Weezer was hit with a minor accident that led to its frontman Rivers Cuomo suffering from minor injuries. Hours after the incident, drummer
Patrick Wilson took it to his Twitter account to share what was really behind the mishap.
"It was perfect conditions for black ice," Wilson tweeted. "Got loose going towards the meridian, driver saves it but bus goes thru guardrail into 6ft ditch." The 40-year-old didn't go further in providing updates on Cuomo's condition, or on whether or not the band's scheduled performance on Monday, December 7 will go according to plan.
On Sunday morning, December 6, at about 7:22 A.M., Weezer's tour bus was traveling on the eastbound New York State Thruway near the city of Amsterdam when it hit some ice patch. According to the police, the driver lost control of the bus, leading the vehicle to mount the median before swerving back across the eastbound lands. It then rammed a guide rail on the right shoulder and crashed into a ditch alongside the roadway.
Two were injured due to the incident, Cuomo and the band's assistant, Sarah Kim. They were taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam, New York. Cuomo, who was on the bus with his wife and 2-year-old daughter, was said complaining of rib pain following the crash. His wife and kid, fortunately, were left uninjured.
Weezer was scheduled to perform at the Agganis Arena at Boston University on Monday night. There are yet words from neither the band's official blogger and agent on the status of the gig. Associated Press claimed that both did not immediately respond to e-mails or phone messages requesting comment on Sunday afternoon.
