'One time, I called Elijah Wood every day for six weeks pretending to be a long-lost German friend,' says Wood's co-star in 'Lord of the Rings'.
Elijah Wood has apparently become the victim of
Viggo Mortensen's practical jokes for quite a long time. The revelation of the six-week prank Mortensen played on the depicter of Frodo Baggins in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy was made by the actor who portrayed Aragon in the series himself.
"One time, I called Elijah Wood every day for six weeks pretending to be a long-lost German friend," Mortensen confessed of his attempt to keep his co-stars in good mood during filming. The 51-year-old continued on to detail his prank, saying "Most of the calls were in the middle of the night. Fortunately he thought it was funny..."
While Wood found the fun side of the practical jokes, the producers of "LOTR" got into a scramble due to one of Mortensen's jokes. The star of "
Eastern Promises" recalled the time when he joked that the stand-ins for the Hobbits got stranded in an island without proper survival gears, and the filmmakers took the prank seriously.
"One time Dominic Monaghan, who played the hobbit Merry, and I mimicked this one particular guy who had a really distinctive voice and rang the producers to say that all the little people were stranded on New Zealand's South Island with nothing to eat and no water," he said. "It became this big crisis and the producers sent everyone scrambling."
