Delivering her speech at Oxford University, the 'She Wolf' hitmaker puts out a call for universal access to education as a tool for world peace.
Shakira has just proven that she is aware of social issues. On Monday, December 7, the "She Wolf" hitmaker spoke about the importance of education, which she considers more important than world domination, at Oxford University. Invited by the Oxford Student Union, the 32-year-old has put out a call for universal access to education as a tool for world peace.
"That is how I want the youth of 2060 to see us: That our mission for global peace consisted of sending 30,000 educators to Afghanistan, not 30,000 soldiers," she said in front of an estimated 400 students of the university. "That in 2010, world education became more important than world domination."
During her half-hour speech, Shakira also told the crowd, who have waited for about 20 minutes before she appeared, "I must admit I am somewhat mystified as to why you are here, as there won't be any singing or any hip shaking whatsoever." The Latin singer then admitted that it was a "privilege" to speak at the world-famous debating society, where Winston Churchill and Dalai Lama had also delivered their speeches.
Asked about her plan in the next decade by an audience member, the fiancee of lawyer Antonio de la Rua said she was willing to embrace "new artistic challenges." She, moreover, added, "And maybe one day have babies of my own."
