Nailing the lead role of Tony-winning tuner 'In the Heights', the 'High School Musical' alum will make his Broadway debut in late January 2010.
Corbin Bleu is making a transition from screen to stage with him being set to make his Broadway debut in 2010. Having lost his Issac part in "The Beautiful Life: TBL" when The CW canned the show, the Chad Danforth of the "High School Musical" series was recently revealed to have been tapped to star in the Tony-winning "In the Heights".
The 20-year-old actor will be seen stepping into the lead role of Usnavi, a young bodega owner in Washington Heights. His stint will last for 13 weeks from January 25, 2010 to April 25, 2010. Nailing the part in the theatrical production means he is the first of the "HSM" alum who is making his break on Broadway.
"In The Heights" itself is set in a diverse neighborhood in upper Manhattan. It explores three days in the lives of a vibrant Dominican-American community in Washington Heights, which is on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams and pressures. Nominated for thirteen Tony Awards, the 2008 production brought home three kudos, including for 2008 Best Musical.
Best known for his "HSM" part, Corbin Bleu is also credited as a singer. On March 10, 2009, he released his second album, "Speed of Light". The first single off the album, "Moments That Matter", is featured in his family sport movie, "
Free Style". He was last seen on the big screen across the U.S. in "
High School Musical 3: Senior Year".
