The song is said to be submitted in 2010 Grammy Awards' Best Song Written for a Soundtrack category by mistake, and it has been withdrawn from the competition a day following the nomination.
Miley Cyrus' "The Climb" is no longer on the run for Best Song Written For Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media at 2010 Grammy Awards. Weeks after being announced to receive the nod, the song is revealed to be disqualified from the competition due to the fact that it was not specifically penned for "
Hannah Montana: The Movie".
While the news came as a surprise for many, a source inside Cyrus camp insisted that the pulling out of "The Climb" was hardly a shock. In fact, the source as reported by People magazine claimed that the song written by Jessi Alexander and Jon Mabe was submitted in the category by mistake. When the error was discovered, the song was withdrawn a day following the December 2 nominations announcement.
Taking the slot left by "The Climb" is "All Is Love", the song written by Karen O of the
Yeah Yeah Yeahs for Maurice Sendak book adaptation, "
Where the Wild Things Are". The film's director Spike Jonze made the revelation through his "We Love You So" blog on Wednesday, December 9.
"Hope you are all well. In an unexpected twist, one of the announced Grammy candidates for Best Song written for a Soundtrack has been disqualified after the fact (Miley Cyrus in fact)," Jonez cited Matt LaMotte of Interscope Geffen A&M Records in the post. "The nomination then goes to the song with the next-highest initial vote count, which is Karen O and the Kids' 'All is Love'."
With the swap, the Best Song Written For Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media category will now see competition between O's "All Is Love",
Bruce Springsteen's title song from "
The Wrestler",
Beyonce Knowles's "Once in a Lifetime" from "
Cadillac Records", A.R. Rahman's "Jai Ho" from "
Slumdog Millionaire", and
Paramore's "Decode" from "
Twilight".
The 52nd Grammy Awards will be held on January 31 at 8 P.M. ET/PT. It will be aired live from at Los Angeles' Staples Center on CBS. Beyonce Knowles led the nominations with 10 nods. She is followed by
Taylor Swift who garnered 8 counts, and
Kanye West,
Black Eyed Peas and
Maxwell who each earned six nods.
