The 27-year-old singer is expected to serve at least eight months behind bars for his gun criminal possession case in July 2007.
Lil Wayne is likely to head to jail in February 2010. On Tuesday, December 15, MTV News reported that Weezy's sentencing date has been set for February 9, 2010 by New York City courthouse. His lawyer Stacey Richman informed that the 27-year-old rapper could be reporting to prison on the same day of the sentencing.
Weezy himself, who pleaded guilty in October for his criminal gun possession, didn't say anything during his brief visit to the Manhattan state court. The Grammy Award-winning rapper is charged with a one-year sentence, where he is expected to serve at least eight months. Where he will serve his time has yet to be disclosed.
Back in July 2007, police caught Lil Wayne for bringing a 40-caliber handgun illegally on his tour bus. He then pleaded guilty for illegal gun case on October 22, 2009. According to Richman, the gun was purchased by his manager Cortez Bryant who had a legal permit to carry the weapon in Mississippi.
On February 1, 2010, a week before his sentencing date, Weezy will release his new album "Rebirth". He originally planned to release the record on April 7, 2009, but has to push it back for several times. One of Young Money artists Shanell claimed that the delay was simply because the "Lollipop" singer wants it to be "perfect".
The news of Lil Wayne's sentencing date came out hours after his new track which features Eminem, "Drop the World", was leaked. The song is produced by Chase N. Cashe and is set to be included in "Rebirth".
