The name of the 'Avatar' star has been tossed in for the leading role of the comic book adaptation, along with 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' baddie Ryan Reynolds.
There is a chance
Sam Worthington will be a comic book hero in his next feature project. Recent report has suggested that the leading man of the James Cameron-directed "
Avatar" is among the top contenders for the lead role of "
Flash Gordon" should Columbia Pictures move on with its feature project plan.
"Right now it's between Sam,
Ryan Reynolds and one or two others for the lead role should the project actually get off the ground," a Hollywood insider talked about the likelihood of the 33-year-old taking the title role. Considering that Sam is an Australian actor, the insider added, "If he gets the role it would be quite a big deal as Flash is an all-American hero."
"Flash Gordon" is based on the classic strip originally drawn by Alex Raymond. The story centers around a young polo player who has been kidnapped and taken to planet Mongo. In the strange planet, he and his friends, Dale Arden and Hans Zarkov, fall into an adventure to battle an evil ruler called Ming the Merciless and bring solace to the planet. Breck Eisner is attached as its director.
Sam Worthington made his big break in the Hollywood movies when landing the role of Marcus Wright in "
Terminator Salvation". He starred in the sci-fi thriller alongside star
Christian Bale. Since December 18, he can be seen in theaters across the U.S. starring as Jake Sully in "Avatar". His upcoming movie will be 2010-released "
Clash of the Titans".
