Mary J. Blige in Defense Over Attacking Husband Rumor

Reported to have punched her husband at her record release party, the Grammy-winning singer explains that she was simply trying to break up a fight between husband and brother.

Contrary to what has been circling around, Mary J. Blige didn't go ballistic on husband Kendu Isaacs at her record release party on Tuesday night, December 22. Through her spokeswoman Karynne Tencer, the nine-time Grammy recipient denies the attack by stating that she was just simply attempting to stop a brawl between Isaacs and her brother.

"Mary was not fighting with her husband," Tencer first threw cold water to the fight rumor to New York Daily News. She went on to explain, "Her husband and her brother got into an altercation that turned into a fight. Mary went to break up the fight." While admitting to be in the dark of the brother's name, the rep slammed report that Isaacs was seen with a bleeding lip, saying "Nobody was bleeding."

Tencer further addressed report that Blige was overheard comparing Isaacs with Chris Brown, who smacked Rihanna earlier this year. "She never mentioned Chris Brown," so she insisted. The spokeswoman moreover claimed, "Mary and Kendu went home together," before adding that the couple who tied the knot in December 2003 are "as happy as can be."

Report of Mary J. Blige punching her husband in the face at "Stronger with Each Tear" release party at club M2 broke out on December 24. The New York Post run the story that the R 'n' B singer slugged Kendu Isaacs after she thought he was flirting with a waitress. A witness was cited as saying, "She turned to him and was screaming, 'You're not going to ruin my night.' "

"They got up in each other's faces before someone tried to separate them, at which point she shoved the guy aside, pulled back and popped [Isaacs] in the face," the witness further recalled. "She was yelling at him, 'What are you gonna do, Chris Brown me?' Four of her bodyguards and two of the club's kept them apart."
