'When the whole lineup changed, it was me and Amelle [Berrabah] that left the band - Keisha was never kicked out,' Heidi Range clarifies on what really went on behind the split with Keisha Buchanan.
A new revelation behind the split of
Sugababes with Keisha Buchanan has been outed by members Heidi Range and Amelle Berrabah. In an interview with OK! Magazine, the two uncovered that they were the ones who actually quit the trio, and Keisha was not being kicked out of the pop trio.
"It's flattering that people are so interested [in the split], but it's hard when things that aren't true are written about you," Range explained. "When the whole lineup changed, it was me and Amelle that left the band - Keisha was never kicked out. We risked our careers. We [just] couldn't take the situation any more."
The 26-year-old singer elaborated further, "You get to a point in life when you just make some life decisions and a line was crossed. So we walked out. [We said] 'I'm not going to take this anymore,' so there's nothing wrong in doing that. I know as a person morally, we've done the right thing." Her fellow band member Berrabah chimed in saying, "But then everyone assumed we kicked her out!"
Range who replaced original member Siobhan Donaghy then said, "Our record company stood by us, [and so did] all the people we work with. They were going through everything we were going through anyway and they supported us." As for their silence up to date, she noted, "We didn't come out and say the details of what had happened and what went on because we wanted to be respectful of the good times that we did have together."
On September 21, Keisha Buchanan announced her departure from Sugababes on her Twitter page. confirmed that she has quit the trio. "Dear Friends I'm sad to say that I am no longer apart of the Sugababes," she tweeted. She later added, "Although it was not my choice to leave, it's time to enter a new chapter in my life. I have nothing but positive things to say about the girls and I wish them the best of luck."
On the same day Keisha revealed her exit from the group, Sugababes' management wrote in the girl group's official website about the new line-up of the trio. "The current line-up of the Sugababes has disbanded," the statement read. "Heidi Range and Amelle Berrabah will continue as the Sugababes and will be joined by new member Jade Ewen ... Keisha Buchanan will continue to record for Island Records as a solo artist."
