'I've been helping Eminem over the last 18 months and he's doing brilliantly,' Elton says when stating that the 37-year-old rapper has done great in battling his drugs issue.
When it comes to drug addiction,
Elton John is likely the right person for
Eminem to lean on. In an interview with BBC Radio on January 1, the "Candle in the Wind" singer shared that for more than a year, he has lent a hand to the rapper in his battle against his dependence on drugs.
"I've been helping Eminem over the last 18 months and he's doing brilliantly," Elton revealed. Although the British pop singer didn't offer details on what kind of help he is giving the rapper, he said, "I'm there if people want my help. If people ask for help you tell them where to go but there's no point advising people if they don't want to do it."
Both Elton John and Eminem had dealt with addiction. Back in May 2009, Eminem has stated that Elton indeed is the person he looked to for support. He told Metro Times, "I talk to Elton a lot. We became friends and I talk to him about things, career wise. And he had a substance abuse problem in the past. So when I first wanted to get sober, I called him and spoke to him about it."
The "Mockingbird" rapper admitted his drugs addiction in the June/July 2009 issue of Vibe magazine. "If I was to give you a number of Vicodin I would actually take in a day? Anywhere between 10 to 20," he recalled. He then continued, "Valium, Ambien, the numbers got so high I don't even know what I was taking."
Elton himself has also been very open about his past drug issue. In his early career, the Grammy Award-winning singer got addicted to alcohol and cocaine. He suffered from a drug overdose in 1975 during "Elton Week" in Los Angeles. However, he claimed he has been sober since the 1980s.
