Kent Police have confirmed that the result of post-mortem investigation suggested the stab wound found on the body of the Bond girl's grandmother was self-inflicted.
Gemma Arterton's grandmother, Helen Sarfas, passed away at her house in Kent, England on Friday, January 8. The former Bond girl's grandmother has been found dead with a fatal knife wound, but police have confirmed the cause of the death was self-inflicted and are not treating the tragic incident as suspicious.
A spokesperson for Kent Police informed that an investigation had been conducted. They also have questioned an 85-year-old man but immediately released him on bail after finding an indication that "the stab wound was self-inflicted". The police reportedly are currently not seeking anyone else in connection with the tragic incident.
Britain's Sunday Mirror Newspaper suggested that Gemma was told about Helen's death by her relatives while rehearsing for her upcoming West End play "The Little Dog Laughed" which is set to open on Monday, January 11. So far, it is unclear whether the tragedy will affect her involvement on the production of the play.
A source also told the publication that "Gemma will be crushed" by the news because the actress adored her late-grandmother. "It is incredibly sad for the family," the source said. "She adored her nan. Helen was a vibrant, outgoing and community spirited woman who adored her family." On Saturday, January 9, Gemma's spokesman said, "It's a private matter."
In 2008, Gemma Arterton appeared in the 22nd James Bond movie, "
Quantum of Solace", playing an MI6 agent Strawberry Fields. She will next be seen alongside
Jake Gyllenhaal as Princess Tamina in "
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time" and alongside
