The 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards also sees Christoph Waltz and Chloe Sevigny grabbing awards in the performers category and 'Glee' nabbing Best TV Series in Comedy or Musical.
One of the hit movies in 2009, "
Avatar" has finally secured its first award on the 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards. Nominated for four, the sci-fi movie starring
Sam Worthington landed its first kudo when its helmer James Cameron was hailed as the winner for Best Director in Motion Picture.
On Sunday night, January 17, Cameron was announced by
Mel Gibson as the kudo recipient at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills. He came out triumphant against Kathryn Bigelow of "
The Hurt Locker",
Clint Eastwood of "
Invictus", Jason Reitman of "
Up in the Air" and
Quentin Tarantino of "
Inglourious Basterds".
Earlier, it has been revealed that "Avatar" has lost Best Original Score in Motion Picture to "
Up" and Best Original Song in Motion Picture to "
Crazy Heart". Nonetheless, it still have a chance to add its award collection as it is still up for the Best Drama Movie category where it is listed against "Hurt Locker", "Basterds", "
Precious: Based on the Novel PUSH by Sapphire" and "
Up in the Air".
Beside "Avatar", "
The Hangover" and "Basterds" have also collected kudo. "Hangover" was revealed by actress
Reese Witherspoon to be the winner of Best Motion Picture in Comedy or Musical, while "Basterds" grabbed Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture from
Christoph Waltz.
In television category,
Chloe Sevigny of "Big Love" took home Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television. Meanwhile, "Glee" landed the title of Best TV Series in Comedy or Musical.
