Charlize Theron and Boyfriend Stuart Townsend Reportedly Split

Before a friend claimed the 'North Country' actress has broken up with the 'Queen of the Damned' actor after a Christmas trip to Mexico, the actress was recently seen without her commitment ring.

"Hancock" actress Charlize Theron has split with her boyfriend of nine years Stuart Townsend, The Daily Mail reported. On January 31, the British tabloid suggested the actress has told her close friend that her separation from the "Queen of the Damned" actor came after a Christmas trip to Mexico.

"Stuart is gutted but Charlize said that she realized during the Mexican holiday that the relationship was over," the friend revealed. "They had become more like brother and sister than lovers." The insider also shared that it was Theron who ended the romance, adding "Charlize was surprised the story hadn't come out yet. But she didn't confirm it because she wanted to break the news in her own time."

In addition to the friend's statement, Theron has sparked break-up rumor earlier when she was seen at the George Clooney's "Hope for Haiti" telethon, which was held on January 22, minus the commitment ring that Townsend had given her. The South African actress previously described the Victorian ring as "very, very precious," adding, "Stuart gave it to me as a sign of our commitment to each other. I never take it off."

When asked about the split by a Mail on Sunday reporter at her Hollywood Hills home, Theron was reportedly snapped, "That's crazy". The "Monster" actress also refused to answer questions about the relationship during the celebration of her mother's 57th birthday at the Spago restaurant in Los Angeles on Wednesday, January 27.

Charlize Theron and Stuart Townsend met in 2001 on the set of thriller "Trapped" and the two have never been reported splitting until recently. While representative for Townsend did not respond to calls for comment, the representative for the 34-year-old Oscar-winning actress has released a statement saying, "I never comment on her personal life."
