Simon Cowell's cover version of R.E.M.'s 1992 classic "Everybody Hurts" in aid of Haiti has just hit the airwaves. The track that was re-recorded to raise funds for victims of the devastating earthquake in the country and gathered more than 20 musician has been launched on the BBC's Radio 1 on Tuesday, February 2.
Currently available for pre-order at hmv.com, play.com, and amazon.co.uk, the tune will be made available for download on Sunday, February 7 before hitting British stores the following day, The Sun reported. All proceeds will be split between the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) and the Sun newspaper's Helping Haiti campaign.
Of the recording of the song, Simon Cowell previously told Sky News, "We have a short time to do this but already we are getting some fantastic support." The "American Idol" judge added, "Right now this is an absolute priority for us all. The people of Haiti need as much help as we can give them as soon as possible. Every day the situation becomes more desperate."
"Everybody Hurts" itself was originally one of R.E.M.'s hit singles. It came from their 1992 album "Automatic for the People". A music video for the tune featured a traffic jam in which people abandoned their cars, and landed the band four MTV's Video Music Awards in 1994.
