The Los Angeles County Coroner has revealed that the 'Just Married' star died of pneumonia 'exacerbated' by 'iron deficiency anemia' and 'multiple drug intoxication'.
The Los Angeles County Coroner has lifted the veil covering the cause of Brittany Murphy's death, and suggested that the actress might still be alive if she went to the doctor. As the coroner ruled the 32-year-old's death accidental, Assistant Chief Ed Winter told Us Magazine, "Had someone said, 'You are going [to the doctor] and thrown her in the car, she might be alive today."
"She and her mother talked, and she decided to get a doctor's appointment. She passed away about three or four days before her doctor's appointment," Winter elaborated his statement. The Los Angeles coroner official further mentioned that Murphy's mother and husband "had been sick with cold and flu- like symptoms about a week or two before" and it might led the actress to think she had the same thing.
Setting records straight on the previous swirling speculations that the "
Just Married" star might have a drug problem, Winter ruled out a possibility of any illegal drugs being found in her system. "It was only prescription and over-the-counter meds," the official confirmed, before adding, "Nothing illegal."
On Thursday, February 4, the Los Angeles coroner announced that the "Clueless" star died from a combination of pneumonia and prescription drugs. Office Chief Investigator Craig Harvey explained that the primary cause of her death was pneumonia and that her tragic passing was "exacerbated" by iron-deficiency anemia and multiple drug intoxication. The toxicology report, containing the specific drugs found in Murphy's system, will be released in a couple of weeks, Harvey stated.
Brittany Murphy passed away on Sunday, December 20. She was pronounced dead at 10:04 A.M. after going in full cardiac arrest. Before being rushed to the hospital, she was found by her mother collapsed in the shower. She was laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park on Christmas Eve, December 24 after a private funeral service.
