Responding to reports of her declining offer to be a part of the charity song remaking, the 'Bad Romance' hitmaker says, 'I believe that they may have asked, yes, about it, but I was unable to do it.'
Rumored to have turned down offer to be a part of the re-recording of "We Are the World",
Lady GaGa came forward to clarify what really went on behind the curtain. "I've actually been in rehearsal for my new tour, but I was never supposed to do 'We Are The World,' " the two-time Grammy-winning singer told Access Hollywood. "So that's a rumor."
In the telephone interview with Access' Billy Bush, the "Poker Face" hitmaker also admitted that the organizers did asked her, saying "I believe that they may have asked, yes, about it, but I was unable to do it." She further stated she has her own charity project. "And I've been working on my own charity projects for Haiti," she said. "We've raised over half a million dollars for Haiti already and we like to work specifically with charities that are based in Haiti itself."
"I donated all of the proceeds from one show worth of ticket sales as well as all the of the merchandise from that show and for 24 hours we had a 'Gaga for Haiti' day where everything that was bought on the Web site... every dollar went to Haiti," the 23-year-old recalled her January 24 gig which was dedicated to raise money for Haiti. "We're continuing to work on more projects and we're supposed to go to Haiti later this year for a show, which is very exciting."
Lady GaGa was reportedly approached to join the star-studded ensemble of "We Are the World" by
Quincy Jones and
Lionel Richie at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday night, January 31. On the day of the re-recording on February 1, she wasn't seen in the line-up and was rumored to have turned down the invitation.
"We Are the World: 25 for Haiti" itself involved such musicians as
Wyclef Jean,
will.i.am,
Celine Dion,
Jennifer Hudson,
Justin Bieber,
Jordin Sparks,
Jonas Brothers,
Keith Urban,
Josh Groban and
Carlos Santana. It will be made available for download on February 7, while its music video will be premiered on February 12 on NBC during the opening ceremonies of the Winter Olympics.
