The pre-game show prior to Super Bowl XLIV has been made a little bit more special with Carrie Underwood and Jay-Z's performance. On Sunday, February 7, the country crooner belted out a rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner" in front of a sold-out Sun Life Stadium in Miami, while the hip-hop singer brought out orchestra for his "Run This Town".
26-year-old Underwood took the microphone dressed in a white jumpsuit accented with silver chains and a silver belt. During her performance for the national anthem, footage of soldiers in Kabul, Afghanistan, standing at attention was shown. Fireworks and a flyover by a quartet of fighter jets hit the sky when the former "American Idol" champ got to the climax of the song.
Jay-Z, in the meantime, delivered a "Posthumous Zone" version of "Run This Town" accompanied by the Rutgers Symphony Orchestra. Opened with a shot at a single pianist on a Steinway, the husband of Beyonce Knowles was seen performing the song while holding the golden Super Bowl trophy high. Behind him, footage of the Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints in action were shown.
In addition to those two musicians, Queen Latifah has also showed off her vocal skills. The songstress, who were seen wearing a gray jacket, sang a live rendition of "America the Beautiful". Accompanying her as backing vocals were a group of children choir. Meanwhile, Chris Daughtry rocked the NFL's Super Tailgate Party and The Who showcased some of their hits, including "Who Are You," "Baba O'Riley" and "Won't Get Fooled Again", during the half-time.
