Beside starring as the orthodontist, the 'Sister Act' actress will also be seen as a guardian angel showing Betty her life if she hasn't gotten the braces in the first place.
The orthodontist responsible in stripping Betty off her signature braces has finally been found. Michael Ausiello of Entertainment Weekly reported that it is "Sister Act" actress Kathy Najimy who has been tapped to tackle the role on a future episode of "Ugly Betty" as the character complete her transformation.
The "Veronica's Closet" actress takes over the honor after Gabe Farkus, Betty's original orthodontist played by Jesse Tyler Ferguson, hit on her at their last appointment. The 53-year-old actress will also be seen in an "It's a Wonderful Life"-style flashback episode as the guardian angel who shows Betty what life will be like if she hasn't gotten the braces in the first place.
Kathy Najimy will make her debut on "Ugly Betty" in an episode set to air on March 24, three weeks before the show's series finale. She was recently seen guest-starring on "Desperate Housewives". In an episode aired in October 2009, she played Detective Denise Lapera, who happens to be a high school nemesis of
Teri Hatcher's Susan.
ABC has drawn decision to pull the plug on "Ugly Betty" in late January. The series starring
America Ferrera will come to its conclusion in mid-April due to its episode order trimming from 22 to 20. "We've mutually come to the difficult decision to make this Ugly Betty's final season, and are announcing now as we want to allow the show ample time to write a satisfying conclusion," executive producer Silvio Horta and ABC president Steve McPherson revealed in a joint statement.
