The 'You Belong to Me' hitmaker has drawn criticism from Australian wildlife authorities after she tweeted about feeding the possums at a park in Melbourne.
Taylor Swift has come under fire once again, and this time it is because of the possums. The 20-year-old drew criticism from Australian wildlife authorities after she tweeted her experience feeding the possums in a Melbourne park following her sold-out performance on Wednesday, February 10.
The Department of Sustainability and Environment was quick to issue a statement in response to her tweet. "We know people who feed wild animals often have the best intentions and that it is attractive to tourists who want to interact with Australian wildlife," a spokesperson said. "However, DSE advises people not to feed wild animals... it can disrupt their natural behavior and it can cause some animals to lose their natural fear of people, making them vulnerable to attack."
Taylor Swift is on tour in Australia as a part of her "Fearless Tour". On Wednesday night, she performed at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne. Following the performance, she took it to Twitter to share, "Tonight the band and I played a show, then hopped in the van and headed to the park for some midnight wild possum feeding."
Weeks earlier, the country singer who has just won four Grammys at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards was criticized for her "off-key" medley of
Fleetwood Mac's "Rhiannon" with
Stevie Nicks at the Grammys on Sunday night, January 31. The Washington Post quipped, "To borrow a phrase from Montgomery Burns, it was more 'off-key caterwauling,' " while The New York Times pounded her for being "painfully out of tune".
