While the two are nominated for their television roles, Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana gets nods for 'Avatar' and Taylor Lautner for 'The Twilight Saga's New Moon' at the 36th Annual Saturn Awards.
The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films has unveiled its selection of nominees for the 36th Annual Saturn Awards. On Thursday, February 18, the Academy revealed that
Alexander Skarsgard and
Hayden Panettiere were among those receiving nominations in the television. Both were nominated for Best Supporting Actor and Actress respectively.
Skarsgard landed the nom for his role in "True Blood". He is up against "Lost" actors, Jeremy Davies and
Michael Emerson, "Leverage" thesp Aldis Hodge, and "Breaking Bad" actor Aaron Paul. Meanwhile, "Heroes" beauty Panettiere will be competing against the likes of
Julie Benz and
Jennifer Carpenter.
While those two were up for the performers honor, "Lost" led the television categories with eight nominations. "Dexter", "Breaking and "True Blood" followed with five each, while "Fringe", "Doctor Who" and "Leverage" earned three apiece, and "Chuck", "The Closer", "Heroes" and "Ghost Whisperer" collected two.
In movie category,
Sam Worthington,
Zoe Saldana and
Sigourney Weaver added three nods to the total of ten nominations "
Avatar" received. They each nabbed a chance to win Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress respectively. Some of the other counts came from director/screenwriter James Cameron.
While "Avatar" grabbed the most nominations in movie, "
The Twilight Saga's New Moon" managed to score two nods, including the Best Performance by a Younger Actor for
Taylor Lautner. "Sherlock Holmes", in the meantime, got eight nominations, and "
Inglourious Basterds" and "
Watchmen" followed with seven.
Honoring the top works in science fiction, fantasy, and horror in film, television and home video, Saturn Awards adds two new categories, Production Design and local theater production, this year. The 36th Annual Saturn Awards will take place on June 24 in Burbank, California.
