Jennifer Lopez Splits With Label, 'Love' Album in Jeopardy

Parting ways with Sony Music Epic Records after a 'heart-to-heart' conversation with CEO Rob Stringer, the 'Louboutins' singer is reported to be in talks with Island Def Jam.

Jennifer Lopez's seventh studio album "Love?" is yet to be released, but the songstress has parted ways with her music label Sony Music Epic Records, putting the album under big question mark. Deadline Hollywood reported that the 40-year-old singer came out with the decision following a "heart-to-heart" conversation with CEO Rob Stringer at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills during the Grammys week.

Confirming the split was manager Benny Medina. In an e-mailed statement, he said, "Jennifer had a wonderful relationship with the Sony Music group, and they have shared many successes together, but the time was right to make a change that best serves the direction her career as an actress and recording artist. She is grateful and appreciative to everyone Sony for all that they accomplished together."

Her departure from the label put the fate of "Love?" in jeopardy. Deadline mentioned that the latest effort from the wife of Marc Anthony will not be released this April as planned, adding that it has been scrapped all together. Still, Sony plans to release her greatest hits compilation this coming fall.

"Love?" has had two of its singles, "Fresh Out the Oven" and "Louboutins", released. "Fresh Out the Oven" peaked at #1 on Billboard Dance/Club Play Songs chart, while lead single "Louboutins" only reached #13. Another song planned to be outed is the Wynter Gordon-penned "What Is Love". It has been set to appear on "The Back-Up Plan" soundtrack.

While she currently isn't attached to any record label, Jennifer Lopez reportedly has set sight on her future label. She reportedly is in talks to sign a deal with Island Def Jam, which is the home for the likes as Mariah Carey and Rihanna. Words are, she has met the label's CEO L.A. Reid at the Grammys after-party.
