Ian McShane is said to have been in negotiations to play Jack Sparrow's newest enemy, the legendary notorious pirate Blackbeard, in 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides'.

Johnny Depp's Jack Sparrow. The Hollywood Reporter has recently come out with a scoop that English actor Ian McShane is in talks to star as a villain in the fourth installment of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" series.
According to the publication, the 67-year-old actor is on the run to play the legendary notorious pirate Blackbeard a.k.a. Edward Teach, who piloted the ship Queen Anne's Revenge. If the "Deadwood" actor does sign on, he will not only star opposite Depp, but also alongside
Geoffrey Rush and
Penelope Cruz.
Ian McShane garnered attention stateside when he landed the role of Al Swearengen, the brutal owner of a brothel, on HBO's series "Deadwood". Having lent his voice to Mr. Bobinski in "
Coraline" and Tai Lung in "
Kung Fu Panda", he will next be seen in the upcoming television series "The Pillars of the Earth".
"Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides", which will see Jack Sparrow in a quest to find the Fountain of Youth, is expected to start its filming this summer in Hawaii. Slated to hit the U.S. theaters on May 20, 2011, the adventure fantasy movie will be directed by Rob Marshall with Jerry Bruckheimer serving as producer. Terry Rossio and Ted Elliot will provide the script.
