Bracing London's pouring rain, the White Queen of 'Alice in Wonderland' joins Johnny Depp, Mia Wasikowska, Helena Bonham Carter and Avril Lavigne on the green carpet.
Despite a steady downpours, London has seen the royal world premiere of "
Alice in Wonderland". On Thursday, February 25, Odeon Leicester Square was transformed into a magical wonderland with topiary animals and many Hollywood big names hitting the green carpet.
Anne Hathaway, in particular, dazzled the crowd with sparkly Vivienne Westwood strapless.
The 27-year-old actress who plays the White Queen completed her red carpet look with platform shoes from Casadei and Stephen Webster jewels. Asked whether the movie was a feminist take on the classic story, she responded, "I definitely would agree with that - yes. "This is Alice ten years later ... when she goes to wonderland she's experiencing a return to self and I think it's a wonderful take on it."
The "
Bride Wars" star wasn't the only one getting under the spotlight on the special night. Co-star
Johnny Depp also drew screams from hundreds of fans braving the rain. Among the firsts to arrived for the event, the 46-year-old sported a sleek appearance with his black suit and white open-necked shirt.
Joining the two on the green carpet were their co-stars
Mia Wasikowska and
Helena Bonham Carter as well as director Tim Burton and theme song singer
Avril Lavigne. Lavigne, who contributed to the the film's soundtrack "Almost Alice", glammed up for the special screening event. She rocked a floor-length black Dolce & Gabbana dress, and accessorized it with Velvet Angels heels and an SJ Phillips necklace.
Not missing out the world premiere were Prince Charles and his wife Camilla Parker-Bowles. The Royal Highness attended the special event since it benefited The Prince's Foundation for Children & the Arts. Depp, Wasikowska, Bonham Carter and Lavigne all had the chance to shake hand with the future King of England.
Expected to come out in Disney Digital 3-D on March 5, "Alice in Wonderland" is described as an epic 3-D fantasy adventure which gives a magical and imaginative twist on some of the most beloved stories of all time. The story follows 19-year-old Alice who returns to the whimsical world she first encountered as a young girl, reuniting with her childhood friends. This time, she embarks on a fantastical journey to find her true destiny and end the Red Queen's reign of terror.
