Both musicians take home kudo from the 41st NAACP Image Awards in the music category, while 'Precious: Based on the Novel PUSH by Sapphire' sweeps movie category with six kudos.
National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) has handed out trophies to the winners of the 41st NAACP Image Awards on Friday, February 26. Among those coming out triumphant in the music category on the special night were
Mary J. Blige and
Black Eyed Peas.
Nine-time Grammy winner Blige received the most nods in the music field by taking home two kudos. One of them was Outstanding Female Artist, and the other was Outstanding Album for her ninth effort "Stronger With Each Tear". Hip-Hop group BEP, in the meantime, nailed the Outstanding Duo, Group or Collaboration title.

Precious: Based on the Novel PUSH by Sapphire" swept movie category with six prizes, including Outstanding Motion Picture and Outstanding Independent Motion Picture. Its director Lee Daniels and two stars
Gabourey Sidibe and
Mo'Nique were also recognized as best director, best actress and best supporting actress.
The television category saw the domination of "Tyler Perry's House of Payne". The TBS sitcom scored four trophies from the NAACP, collecting among others Outstanding Comedy Series. "Grey's Anatomy", which got the most nominations meanwhile, only managed to walk away with two kudos for Outstanding Writing and Directing in a Dramatic Series.
NAACP Image Awards honors achievements in literature, music, television and movies. This year's ceremony took place at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
Wyclef Jean who was handed Vanguard Award for his humanitarian work in Haiti. Upon receiving the special honor, he said, "This award is for all of those people that you don't see on the ground working."
