Having filmed a PSA for The Trevor Project, the star of 'Harry Potter' explains why gives his supports, 'I have always hated anybody who is not tolerant of gay men or lesbians or bisexuals.'
"Harry Potter" star
Daniel Radcliffe has filmed a PSA for the Trevor Project to combat suicide among LGBT youth on Friday, February 26. On the same day, the straight actor told reporters why he lends his famous face. "I grew up knowing a lot of gay men and it was never something that I even thought twice about - that some men were gay and some weren't," he explained.
"And then I went to school and [for] the first time...I came across homophobia. I had never encountered it before. It shocked me," the star of the "Harry Potter" series further recalled his experience. "I have always hated anybody who is not tolerant of gay men or lesbians or bisexuals. Now I am in the very fortunate position where I can actually help or do something about it."
"I've always felt very lucky to have the life that I've had. I never had to cope with anything serious about my religion or sexual orientation or anything like that," the 20-year-old went on to say. "I think it's important for somebody from a big, commercial movie series like Harry Potter, and particularly because I am not gay or bisexual or transgendered. The fact that I am straight makes not a difference, but it shows that straight people are incredibly interested and care a lot about this as well."
In another news, MTV has clarified circulating rumor suggesting Daniel Radcliffe could be starring in "
The Lucky Ones". "It's for another film called '
Nothing Else Like It On Earth'," a source told the publication. "It's a really beautiful story." The source explained that the English actor only did readings, adding that no casting decisions have been made.
According to MTV, "Nothing Else Like It on Earth" will have something to do with the building of the Brooklyn Bridge. Beside Daniel, Lily Rabe,
Sigourney Weaver and Nathan Lane have also read for parts. "But if they cast the line-up that was at the reading yesterday it will be quite the cast," the insider pointed out. "Lily Rabe played the role opposite [Daniel]. She did a pretty incredible job."
